Cancun is Calling
About This Trip
Beaches, shopping, restaurants, nightlife, historical sites; Cancun, a city on the Yucatán Peninsula of the Caribbean Sea, has it all! Single travelers, couples, groups, families — there is something for everyone!
The white, sandy beaches of the Hotel Zone meet the Caribbean Sea’s warm turquoise water. Laguna Nichupte, a lagoon on the west side of the island, is the location of marinas, golf courses, and restaurants on the water’s edge. Party Zone is in the center of Hotel Zone. As the name implies, it’s where the action is — bars, restaurants, and the best nightclubs. If you want to dance to Latin rhythms, go to Grand Mambo Café. DJs play a mix of pop, hip hop, and music of the 70s and 80s at Coco Bongo. During DJ breaks at Coco Bongo, you might see circus acts perform.
The Yucatán Peninsula is the home of the ancient Mayan culture. Cancun, in the state of Quintana Roo, is the perfect base for exploring the remains of this intriguing ancient civilization. Tulum, the site of a Pre-Columbian Maya walled city, is less than two hours from Cancun. If you go to Tulum, where you’ll see the iconic Castillo (Castle), balanced on a cliff’s edge, and Temple of the Frescoes, dating to A.D. 1450. Don’t forget to explore the brilliant ruins of the towering icon of Chichen Itza!
